Inclusive Education
As our community becomes increasingly diverse and more globally connected, we believe that our school has an obligation to ensure inclusivity to all our students. Our curriculum at Alethea helps students see that all walks of life are closely connected and significant, and that they are in a healthy environment where everyone feels at home, accepted and celebrated for who they are.
Promoting STEM Literacy
At Alethea classes are designed to foster curiosity, inquiry, and discovery in every lesson. Alethea has an integrated curriculum for all students in which learning extends beyond the classroom walls. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are integrated throughout with emphasis on integrated project-based work. Frequent hands-on instructional activities are a key part of the school activities.
Creativity and Innovation
IgniterSpace conducts classes during school hours using simple material to introduce complex yet very interesting concepts based on technology to kids. IgniterSpace programme enables our young Aletheans to be creative under the guidance, knowledge and tools required to be innovative.
Coding & Robotics
Learning about coding and robotics can give students of all ages effective access to explore computer science. Alethea offers those keen students hand-on and creative learning opportunities to learn coding and robotics as an after school activity, supporting the much encouraged STEM literacy during school hours.
Art & Handwork
Art is taught up to grade 8. Visits to galleries and museums are organized whenever possible and Art Exhibitions are organized by the Arts Club to provide opportunities for the students to display their work.
General Knowledge
General Knowledge is a part of the weekly curriculum, this allows the class teacher to work with their own classes on various topics. Students at Alethea have actively taken part in General Knowledge contests and quiz programs organized by various schools, often being placed within the first 3 positions. The school library is home to diverse reading material, providing students with easy access to useful information, current affairs and things of global importance.
Music & Singing
As a subject, Singing is taught up to Grade 8 and we have provided opportunities for students in the senior and middle School to take part in the School band while the students in the Junior grades are trained to participate in the percussion bands. Numerous performance opportunities exist within the School, both formal and informal, including concerts, assemblies, variety entertainment, Sports Meets, Prize Day and other events related to the School.
Religious Education
Buddhism, Roman Catholicism, Christianity (non RC), Islam and Hinduism is taught to all students from Grade 1 to Grade 8 in the International stream and up to 11 in the National stream.
Sinhala Language
The mother tongue is taught to all children from Pre Grade up to Grade 8. We believe that our children should have assimilation to Srilankan culture through their language & religion.
Provision for the study of other languages
In addition to English which is the medium of instruction, the students are taught Sinhala / Tamil up to Grade 8.
Physical Education
We believe that all students should participate in quality, daily physical education to achieve personal fitness, develop motor skills, acquire safety skills, and understand human movement. This is accomplished through regular routine instruction via a structured physical education syllabus making it an integral and essential component of education at Alethea.
Speech & Drama with Effective Communication
Speech and Drama is a subject taught from the Pre-Grade to Grade 5. Exams conducted by Trinity College London in the field of speech and drama are easily acclaimed and recognized on an international scale. The Speech and Drama exams offer assessment of ability in speech, spoken, interpretation and dramatic performance. Students further enhance their skills from grade 6 onwards with Effective Speech taught up to advanced level.
Western, Kandyan And Cultural Dancing
Kandyan and western dancing is a much enjoyed activity and taught from Pre Grade to Grade 8. Dancing continues as an optional subject in higher grades.
